It hasn’t always been about medical illustration.
While attending the University of the Pacific, Ron decided to become a dentist. In what was probably a fortunate turn of events for the dental community, he discovered a preference for life drawing over drilling, and changed his major to Art.
Today, as a noted medical illustrator and sole proprietor of his own company, Visual Medicine, Ron brings to his work a unique background of illustration, strategic marketing and creative development.
Prior to starting his business, Ron held a number of top positions in the medical and marketing world, including:
- Chief of Medical Illustration at the Arizona Heart Institute where he supervised creation of the Institute’s promotional and educational material.
- Advertising Manager for Codman & Shurtleff, the surgical instrument division of Johnson & Johnson.
- Vice President, Director of Client Service for the Boston office of ad agency BOZELL Worldwide, where he supervised global advertising and business development for a stable of blue chip, technology-based clients.
Unlike many illustrators, Ron has an unusually deep knowledge of medical instruments. He understands them mechanically, and knows how they’re used in surgery. As a result, his clients get a rare combination of brand enhancing talent: top quality illustration by an industry recognized expert who’s extensive marketing experience has taught him how to showcase a product.
Ron’s work has been featured in industry competitions such as the Association of Medical Illustrators, the Medical Marketing Association and the Advertising Club of Boston and many others.
